Block Heels

by | Jul 10, 2018

Is it time to rethink our heels?

Most women love a good pair of heels and why not? They make one feel elongated, elegant and sexy, and that’s just good for self esteem! But heels also can be pretty terrible for other things, like feet and long-term health. ¬†Boring, right? Sure, foot health isn’t top of mind for most people under the age of eighty, but inevitably you reach a point after years of swearing you “only wear heels” or that you would never be caught dead in flats, when you secretly realize that rocking heels all day, everyday just doesn’t work…at least not if you want to avoid becoming a hunchback (no disrespect to Quasimodo).

The good news is you don’t have to completely abandon heels (that would be cruel!), although if you choose to do so there are plenty of cute flats and sneakers too! You can simply reconsider the types of heels you wear, opting for styles that might be better for your feet and still make you look good. If that sounds like the footwear version of a mythical unicorn, it’s not! It’s called the block heel (or stacked heel), and it offers both some height and some support, making it easier and better to wear your beloved heels. No one’s suggesting you give up your stilettos forever, because the world is a dark enough place already, but the next time you’re in the market for a new pair, why not consider a blocked heel? Besides, a few Vogue editors recently selected some versions of a blocked heel as the chicest and most comfortable summer work shoe, so if it’s good enough for Vogue, it’s good enough for the rest of the world!

Here are some options to consider if you’re trying the trend. ¬†If you’re budget conscious (a woman’s gotta save) or simply aren’t ready to fully invest in the trend, you’ll be happy to know you can shop across a variety of styles and price points.

There’s something about 70s aesthetic that is alluring . . . One trend that’s re-emerging from the decade can be a little more intimidating; the wide leg jean.
